100g Arrowroot powder, The Bites
80g unbleached plain flour, the bite
130ml boiling hot water Fillings
1 cup Peanut, The Bites, roasted and ground
1 tsp Sesame oil, Why Not? and coconut sugar, The Bites, artisan Ginger syrup
150g Coconut sugar, The Bites, artisan
50g Ginger, sliced
1 litre Filtered water
1. To prepare the ginger syrup, cook all the ingredients to boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Set aside.
2. In a bowl, combine the fillings ingredients.
3. Sieve the arrowroot powder and flour in a large bowl. Pour the boiling water over and quickly mix them well. Knead the dough into small pieces. Flatten each piece, put the fillings in the centre, seal and shape them into round balls.
4. Boil a pot of water, put in the ‘tang yuan’. Once they are cooked floating on the water, transfer them to cold water. Drain and serve with the ginger syrup.
HEALTH TIPS: Arrowroot powder is very versatile. In Japan, it is widely used as remedial food for stomach discomfort.
